Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Today marks the first day of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and many non-profit and health care organizations are working to increase awareness world-wide.

For women in the U.S., breast cancer death rates are higher than those for any other cancer besides lung cancer. Every 1 in 8 women(about 13%) will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009.

Today I will be interviewing a representative from "Pink It's Always Pretty(P.I.A.P)," an organization founded in the memory of Kimberlly Renee Thomas, a victim of breast cancer. P.I.A.P is eager to "develop a network of communities dedicated to providing financial, educational and moral support to young women of color and their families as they battle breast cancer together."

Please take part in learning about preventative measures and treatments for the breast cancer and upcoming events catered to this cause. Whether you are directly affected or know of a friend or family member that might is, check out the show today from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. on WEBR radio. Call-in to 703-560-8255 if you have any questions.
